Regular Events at Your Library

Preschool Story Time

The Brainerd Public Library offers two preschool story times each week held every:

  • Tuesday at 10:15 AM and
  • Monday evening at 6:30 PM.

Preschoolers are invited to join their friends at the children’s story time area in the Brainerd Public Library as you read stories, sing
songs, do finger plays, and have lots of fun! Each story time will have a different theme.
Admission is free and there is no pre-registration. However, parental supervision is required.

BABY STORYTIME every Thursday at 11:15 am
Even the littlest of lakes area residents need some time of their own. A baby story time for those from birth to 24 months will be held every Thursday morning at 11:15 am. Come to the Brainerd Public Library with your little one for stories, music and songs. Read with your baby every day. It's a great excuse to cuddle.

Movie Day At The Library: Call the library for dates and titles being played, 829-5574.

Local Library Board Meetings:
Meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 6 pm. The public is welcome.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
The Brainerd Public Library Adult Book Club meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the library, from 2-3 pm. Call 829-5574 for the current title selection.

BROWN BAG LUNCH SUMMER SPEAKERS' SERIES
Mondays, noon to 1pm, June through July at the Brainerd Public Library
This series is sponsored by the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library.
Plan on joining us next summer!

SENIOR CENTER BOOK CLUB
The Senior Center Book Club meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at the Brainerd Lakes Area Senior Center, 10:30-11:30 am. Please join us downstairs for LSS luncheon following the meeting. Book copies are available for pick-up at the senior center. Call 829-5574 for the current title selection.

Friends of the Brainerd Public Library:
Generally meets the first Monday of each month at 6pm.
In June & July, meets at 11am during the Brown Bag Lunch series.
Used book donations accepted and appreciated throughout the year and used for the Friends Biannual Book Sale.

Biannual Used Book Sale
Events and various materials provided by the Friends are free and open to the public. Please consider a Friends membership - your donation will help bolster the library collection and professional programming.

 
Summer Reading Programs

Programs for ages birth to teen groups (ages 12-18)

Readers (Ages 6-11)
June - August
Children keep track of time spent reading, receive prizes for every two hours of reading

Pre-readers/Family (Ages 0-5)
June - August
Families keep track of time spend reading to pre-readers and the children receive prizes

Teens Summer Reading Program:
June - July
Teens keep track of time spent reading , receive prizes for every three hours of reading

The library offers a number of programs for children during the summer as well as end of the reading program parties for both children and teens.

Printing- First three black and white pages are free-with additional black and white pages at $.15 per page. Color pages are $1.00 each.

Reference Service: The Reference Desk is staffed all hours that the Brainerd Public Library is open. Special Collections:
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Resource Center
This resource center, funded by a Susan G. Komen grant, has books, pamphlets, DVDs, and a dedicated PC for information on breast cancer.

Book Club in a Bag
A Book Club in a Bag contains 10 copies of a title, along with a book discussion guide. They check out for 6 weeks and the Library has about 90 titles.

Foundation Directory Online
The Foundation Directory Online is a national database of grants and grant makers for use by non-profit organizations seeking grant information. The directory is accessible only on library computers. In addition, we have grant directories and other grant resources in print.

Kits for Kids
Kits for Kids are multi-media kits of books, videos, toys, etc. on a number of subjects, geared for pre-school children. They are especially useful for a daycare or preschool setting. The library has 13 titles in this format, and they check out for 4 weeks.
