INDOOR PICNIC
Spring is almost here. While we wait for it to officially join us, let’s have an indoor picnic. We will meet in the CTC Room at the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce at 6:00 on Thursday April 11th. This will be a potluck event. Please bring a dish to share and your own non-alcoholic drink. Alcohol is not allowed in the meeting room. Please RSVP to Kim Paschke. All details are below.

Join us on Friday, August 4th at 7:30 for Lakes Area Music Festival’s performance of A Night at the Opera. I have included a brief description below and a link to a full description of the evening. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Lakes Area Music Festival, here is a little info and I have also included a link to their website so you can see everything they have to offer our area in the coming weeks. I have a block of tickets reserved. Please let me know if you would like to join us so that I have the correct number of tickets available when we meet at the door.
Lakes Area Music Festival
The Lakes Area Music Festival was established during the summer of 2009 when co-founding Artistic and Executive Director Scott Lykins returned to his hometown of Brainerd with four colleagues from the Eastman School of Music. In an effort to create an outlet for their musical gifts, these musicians put on six free concerts and enlisted members of the Minnesota and St. Paul Chamber Orchestras to participate. These concerts developed into a 3-week calendar of musical activities every year.
Each season performances range from chamber music to symphonic orchestra to opera and ballet, performed by an all-star roster of over 200 artists from top orchestras and opera companies worldwide.
A Night at the Opera
In this special program, voices of all types and from every corner of the world come together to serenade you. Hear many of your favorite opera moments from the William Tell overture to soring arias and ensembles.

Brainerd Lakes Area Newcomers July Gathering
The Brainerd Lakes Area Newcomers will be getting together in July in Lake Shore to go for an evening pontoon ride. We will meet on July 19th at 6:30 pm. If the weather cooperates, we will pontoon from Lake Margaret to Nisswa and back. Hopefully, we can get an evening like the one pictured above.

June Newcomers Events
Newcomers June gathering will be on the StewardShip hosted by the National Loon Center in Crosslake. We have the StewardShip reserved for Saturday, June24th at 9:00. All details are listed below. Fingers crossed that the loon chicks have hatched by then. Please register with me, as there are a limited number of people who will be able to attend. Hope to see you there.
What to Expect
Our floating classroom, the StewardShip, provides a fun and informative tour of Cross Lake that includes respectful (and exhilarating) observation of loons as well as lessons about the actions we can take to conserve loons and freshwater ecosystems. There are plenty of activities and teachings aboard the StewardShip to learn why and how to value the natural world we live in.

Hello Newcomers!! We will be getting together on May 2nd at 5 Rocks Distilling CO. at 6:00. 5Rocks Distilling Co. is a family owned and operated microdistillery in the heart of the Brainerd Lakes Area. The 5Rocks family is passionate about creating a legacy of products that reflect the spirit of Minnesota. We will be able to tour and learn about the distilling process. Newcomers April Event
Our April event for Newcomers will be appetizers and a play. We will meet at Carrie Benson’s Photography Studio located in the Franklin Arts Center at 5:00 on Thursday, April 13th. We will socialize until around 7:00 and then walk to the theater for the play that starts at 7:30. Tickets for the play are $10.00 each with a $2.00 processing fee. Newcomers March Get Togethers
Spring officially begins in March. I’m thinking it might be a while before we will be seeing flowers.
We will have two different opportunities to get together this month. I have had several requests to do Trivia Mafia again. We will meet on March 16th at Roundhouse brewery at 6:30 to hopefully continue our winning streak.
Several Newcomers do attend Business After Hours sponsored by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce. On Tuesday, March 14th, from 4:30 to 6:00 BAH will be hosted by WonderTrek Children’s Museum and Franklin Arts Center. This would be a great introduction to the Franklin Arts Center for those of you who haven’t visited this before. This will not be an official gathering of our group. One of my favorite sayings for what we call "cabin fever" is a Canadian saying for it, "shack wacky". So, in order to keep us all from going "shack wacky", let’s have some fun!!!!
We had a great time doing Trivia Mafia in January. There was an interest in trying to do this on a weekly basis. So please feel free to join the group on the next 2 Thursdays (February 9th and 16th) at 6:30 at Roundhouse for Trivia Mafia. We did place first the night we played.

Have you ever wanted to golf in the winter or maybe just try golfing or watch indoor golfing? Cragun’s has 3 golf simulators that we will be able to use if you want to give it a try. Each simulator can be used by 4 people. We have a 2-hour block of time reserved to use them from 6:00 to 8:00 on Friday, February 24th. The cost to use the simulator will be $20 a person. Please, RSVP to me if you are interested in trying the simulator so that Cragun's can plan accordingly.
If you’re not interested in golfing, join us, and watch the fun. Their Friday night special is Fish Fry. Their regular menu will also be available. I have attached a link to their website below. If you don’t want to use the simulator, you can visit and enjoy watching those who are golfing.

January 2023 Brainerd Newcomers Events
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be able to meet at the Stone Ridge Lodge as planned. So I'd like to offer an alternative. Let's get together at RoundHouse Brewery and do Trivia Mafia. It begins at 6:30 and lasts until 8:30. I talked to them a little bit ago and they said you can have as many members on the team as you want, so we'll be a team. If you can't make it at 6:30 you can join the team late. If you have to leave early, that's OK too.
The kitchen should be open until 8:00 for those who would like to grab a bite to eat. They also have a non-alcohol menu for those who aren't interested in one of their brews.

In November we are going to visit a newcomer to the area. We will be meeting at Woodlore Cider on Tuesday, November 1st at 6:00. They have a space that we can get together in. We will be able to sample some of their ciders. A flight of 4 samples will be available for $12.00. Welcome Wine Spritzer - July 14th
The Shante in Pillager will put together a wine flight and food pairing night for us on Thursday, July 14th. I need to respond to them by July 7th with how many will be attending and wine preferences so that they can match the tastes of the group. Here is the information that they sent to me.
Thursday July 14th starting at 6PM. Everyone would get a "Welcome" wine spritzer to get things started. Following that there will be 4 wines with small eat pairings. It will be a fair amount of food but will not be a full meal. Water crackers will also be at the table. The wine size will be about 3 oz per wine so you will get two full glasses of wine plus the welcome spritzer. This will take about 1.5 hours. If anyone would like a glass of wine or bottles after that, I will offer them at 10% off to the group. We do close at 8PM.
Cost- $25 for less than 20 people and $20 for over 20 people. Max is 30 people.

I have access to a block of tickets for the Lakes Area Music Festival Performance of "Tribute to the Earth" on Sunday, July 31st at 2:00 at the Gitchi-ziibi Center for the Arts. The Stage North Theater is performing Anything Goes at the Franklin Arts Center. Carrie Benson Nicholes has invited us to her studio in the Franklin Arts Center to gather and socialize before attending the play on April 1st. The play starts at 7:30, with doors opening at 7:00. We can meet at her studio starting at 5:30. We will have tables and games set up. Water and pop will be provided. Please bring an appetizer to share.
You will be responsible for purchasing your own ticket for the play. Tickets are $10.00 with a $1.50 processing fee if purchased in advance. You can purchase tickets in advance at the link below. All seating is general seating.

Crosslake St. Patrick’s Day Parade
We will be meeting at the Frandsen Bank and Trust parking lot to watch the parade. We will not be parking at the bank. This event draws a large crowd, so plan time for parking accordingly. I will have a table set up if you would like to share some green snacks with the group. Bring lawn chairs if you don’t want to stand for the whole parade. The parade is March 19th and starts at 2:00.

There’s a full Moon January 17th, fingers crossed the sky is clear. Let’s meet in the parking lot at the Northland Arboretum at 7:00 for a one-hour snowshoe (or hike) through the woods.
Where: Northland Arboretum (The Arb closes at 4:30, the rest rooms will be available)

How: Meet in the parking lot at the Northland Arboretum and Snowshoe or hike with your boots. (The trail should be packed well enough to hike with boots.)

Let’s do an Outdoor Adventure
When: Friday September 17, starting at 6:00
Where: Let’s start at Fritz Loven Park and for those who would like, you can stop for live music at Roundhouse Brewery on the way home. They are celebrating October Fest.
How: We will meet at the picnic shelter at Fritz Loven Park for group introductions. We will follow this with a walk through the park along Stony Brook. Feel free to bring your own snack or a picnic to munch on during introduction time. As I said above Roundhouse is celebrating October Fest that weekend, so those who would like could stop in for live music afterwards.

I'd like to introduce myself. I am Kim Paschke and I will be following in Paula's footsteps, organizing events for Newcomers. My husband and I moved to Lakeshore 3 years ago and love everything the area has to offer. I am very excited to be working with Newcomers.
I'm sure it is no surprise to everyone that all area businesses are very busy at the end of June and beginning of July. I have been able to organize a get together for next Thursday, July 22nd at Roundhouse Brewery, to get together and listen to music. Everyone now has my email address. Get A Behind the Scenes Tour of Mount Ski Gull
Dear Newcomer,
Get a behind the scenes tour of Mount Ski Gull, ride the chairlift to the top of the hill, and/or the tubing hill, see where snow is made and learn about the inner workings of a non-profit ski hill, in a 30min tour. Then if you choose you can go skiing/snowboarding or tubing after at a discounted rate.
- Gather at 5:15 pm on Friday, Feb 26th at 5:15pm
- Tour starts at 5:30 pm
- Ski/Tube 6-8 pm
- Tubing from 6pm-8pm $15/person
- Lift Ticket $17.99 Rental $21.99

- Three bonfires available for warmth

Curl with the Club at the Brainerd Lakes Area Curling Club – Saturday, January 11th from 4-7pm.
Rental of the Club is sponsored by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (https://www.cuyunamed.org/). Todd Bymark from CRMC is also a Curling Club member and will be with us that evening as a host and instructor. There will be additional instructors from the Curling Club. We’ll be on the ice for about two hours then we’ll gather for dinner.
We’ll have Wings & Pork/Chicken Tacos by Pit Happens (https://www.pithappenscatering.com/menu), and Wine/Beer tasting by Cashwise Liquor (https://www.cashwise.com/CWstore7036).
Cost: $15/person (please bring cash or check made to Brainerd Community Action).
If you don’t want to get on the ice, please still come and enjoy the food/beverages and watch the newbies on ice (there’s a great viewing area – and it’s warm!).

Newcomers July Event: Lake's Area Music Festival France Nouvelle
Hi Newcomer,
Our wonderful Lakes Area Music Festival has put together a private reception for you!!
We will be gathering on Wednesday, August 7th, at 6:15pm at LAMF's offices at 715 Laurel in downtown Brainerd.
Mingle with a few of the world-class musicians who come here from around the United States and throughout the world. Enjoy some wine and light appetizers, and then we'll head over to reserved seating at Tornstrom Auditorium for a France Nouvelle Concert at 7:30 PM. Tickets are not required for this concert (there is a chance to donate in donation boxes after the concert), but you must RSVP with me by July 25th if you plan to attend the reception and concert. The seats fill up quickly and we want to be sure to be kind to LAMF, so please RSVP.
