Brainerd Area Cities - Crosslake, Minnesota

If you would like to experience the land of 10,000 lakes then Crosslake, MN, is the destination for you. Fishing, boating, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are just a few of the many outdoor activities the Crosslake area has to offer. As the gateway to the Whitefish Chain of lakes you might come to think that this is where MN got it's famous tag as the Land of 10,000 lakes. Originally Crosslake was a logging community. In 1836 the creation of the Pine River Dam began and the Whitefish Chain of lakes were connected to facilitate easier transportation of logs from one area to the next. Logging came to an end in 1912 and quickly Crosslake began its trend of becoming a premier vacation destination. Resorts grew out of old logging camps and the population of loggers transitioned into families. Many of the original logging families have kept their roots in the area for many generations. Crosslake officially became a city in 1972 and has never looked back.

Whatever your fancy; snow and ice, or water and beaches, your family will have no shortage of activities to choose from. The Whitefish chain offers lakes big and small and includes: Bertha, Clamshell, Island, Cross, Daggett, Arrowhead, Big Trout, Loon, Little Pine, Lower Whitefish, Middle Whitefish, Pig, Upper and Lower Hay, Rush and Upper Whitefish. The area boasts some of the best outdoor festivals such as Crosslake days in August and Winterfest in January. Don't forget to visit the Crosslake Area Historical Society to brush up on a little local history!
