Many campground options are available in the Brainerd Lakes area. In addition to the traditional camping resort, the Brainerd Lakes Area boasts a number of Public Camping and Recreation areas. These public camping and recreation areas offer a great variety of activities and a number of historic and interpretive learning opportunities.

| Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is located 15 miles northeast of Brainerd on Hwy 210. The campground is located on the northwest shore of the Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake (352 feet deep). Mine pit lakes are excellent for fishing trout, northern, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and panfish. The lake is also great for scuba diving and canoeing. The recreation area includes mountain biking trails. Nearby attractions include the Croft Mine Historical Park, and the Cuyuna Range Historical Museum. |

| Stony Point campground is located in a forested area neat the town of Walker. The campground is adjacent to Leech Lake. Many large trees aged over 100 years old surround the campsites.
